Luminary: Michael Berman

Michael Berman joined Kovexa as a senior advisor after more than twenty-five years in senior leadership roles in higher education. Most recently he was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for California State University, the largest system of four-year universities in the US. Previously he held CIO, CTO, and similar positions at universities in California and New Jersey, as well as at a prestigious art and design college. His outstanding career was recognized in 2022 when he was awarded the EDUCAUSE Leadership Award, the most prestigious award in higher education information technology. Before assuming administrative roles, he was a tenured full professor in Computer Science. He has been a frequent presenter and writer on topics related to information technology, teaching and learning, and computer science. Michael was awarded a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rutgers University. He has an extensive background in consulting and advisory roles for education institutions, major corporations, and technology startups. He has also been a board member for EDUCAUSE as well as for CENIC, which operates the network connecting education and research institutions in California and beyond. He also has experience as a software developer, and wrote a textbook published by Oxford University Press.
